Jay Hoots confirmed for re-design of bike park!

Renowned bike park designer Jay Hoots is contracted to build the new bike park. Very exciting news, as his creations have set the standard across the country! He will be in town early May for open house discussions to get input on the new park design. It is proposed to be finished by the end of June!

The events are: 50km mtb enduro, 5 or 10k trail run

Many more details to come, I just wanted to get the notice out there, so that you may mark your calendars.

It's going to be a huge weekend, as the "Come Hell or High Water" Petawawa River Races are happening on Saturday, May 7th. A big weekend of Adventure Sports in the Ottawa Valley !!!

Petawawa Bike Park expands!

We have unofficial word that the Petawawa Bike Park will expand this summer and get a dedicated budget. This means some much needed fencing, signage, some new jumps and features, and a rebuild of the pump tracks. Stay tuned.

Take a kid biking

We are hosting a take-a-kid mountain biking event Oct. 3 in Petawawa. This is part of a bigger provincial initiative to get kids active.
We'll meet at the bike park in Petawawa and then ride the Terrace trails. 2-4pm. It is free for mom, dad and kids. All need a helmet.

It's back! Similar route to last year with some minor changes. School age, high school and adult categories with distances for all abilities. Oct. 4 - you must pre-register before the event and then sign in (day of) by 9:30 am. See the attached poster.

Still working in Pet; a work day last week was attended by the Mayor and others, who are psyched to see the kids ripping it up and not that so few wear helmets...
Another work day Monday July 13, then the technical features will slowly be added. Trails are also being flagged along the escarpment for the Junior Rangers to open up.

Petawawa Bike Park

June 1 we threw the first dirt to make the Pet bike park pump tracks. A full day of tractor (x2) and shovel and rake got all of the turns in place for the 2 pump tracks, and got about 2/3 of the berms shaped. The rest and the rollers will be done in a week or so. If you have some time, you could pack the features - literally just stomp on them by foot to pack them down more. Riding them won't hurt either...
More to come. The technical features will be built at a later date. Thanks to Jeff, Damien and Blair Bolivar for the muscle.

Beachburg trail time trial

Wed. May 20, the regular Forest Lea ride will convene at Beachburg instead, for a fun time trial race around the super fast trails there - a great chance to see new riding. Entry is free; a time trial is just a timed loop, starting one at a time. It is inclusive and free - all are invited. We can also do some minor trail work while there, particularly resurrect the trailhead sign that was knocked down. Arrive at 6 if you can to do a bit of work, riding starts at 7pm. Introducing OVMBA

We've finally got our act together and created the Ottawa Valley Mountain Bike Association. Our mandate is to provide trail riding opportunities - both social and developing new places to ride.
Membership is $20, which goes directly to trail maintenance and building (and you get some swag!).
